QCNC Presentation- ADRC Resource Center

Theresa R., Quota’s Program Co-Chair introduced our guest speaker this month, Tiffany Ballew, (pictured above) who is the ADRC Program Supervisor (Aging, Disability, Resource Center) with the Department of Human Services Office on Aging in Larimer County, Colorado.

The Office on Aging is a government and/or community-based organization dedicated to addressing and serving the needs of older adults. The Office on Aging was founded under the Older Americans Act in 1965. They provide resources, services, and advocacy to promote the well-being, independence, and quality of life for seniors. Services often include health and wellness programs, caregiver support, information on housing and long-term care, financial assistance, legal aid, and social engagement opportunities. The office may also help connect individuals with local community services and support networks.

Ms. Ballew explained that the Larimer County Office on Aging (LCOA) serves adults 60 and beyond, adults living with a disability, and caregivers. LCOA plays a unique role not only to provide direct services and fund community partners, but to innovate and advocate to meet the growing needs of the community in northern Colorado. Additionally, of the many, many resources available through the ADRC, they also provide vouchers to support daily and household activities that assist older adults to live safely in their homes.

A Boot Scoot’n Time

What an incredibly fun afternoon for Quota members and guests!!! Special thanks to Debra H. & Nan W. for a REALLY lively and delightful Saturday afternoon. Quota’s own Nan W. provided us with our very own  private dance lessons.

Learning the Electric Slide and the Wagon Wheel is like joining a choreographed party where everyone’s in sync (or trying to be…), but with a bit of a twist, a “Quota twist”. Imagine stepping onto a floor, boots tapping to the rhythm, and all about having a blast while picking up the steps. You don’t need a partner, just the energy and giggles to follow along, spin, shuffle, and maybe add a little Quota sass as you kick up the dust! That is exactly what we did! Thanks again to Debra for helping to organize this event and to Nan for your patience and fun instruction.

Installation & Thanks

The definition of commitment is a “firm dedication to a cause, activity or task. It involves making a promise or decision to follow through with an action or responsibility which often requires consistent effort and reliability.”  This definition definitely describes the members who make up Quota Club of Northern Colorado especially members who have volunteered to take on leadership positions within the organization.

During our recent dinner meeting Quota NOCO President Barb. L gave special recognition and thanks to our outgoing board members (picture above) Debra H. and Nan W. for their multiple years and hard work serving on the board of directors. In addition, President Barb L. inducted and welcomed our newest board of members (picture below),  Judy W., Leah S. and Kristi M. who have volunteered to be on the board for 1-to-2-year terms. As the saying goes…”it takes a village…” and the Quota Club is an amazing group to be a part of. If you are interested in being a part of this amazing organization, contact us.

A “League” Of Their Own

Susan Canney & Anne Hall

Quota’s September2024 meeting was an incredibly informative evening. Special guest speakers Susan Canney and Anne Hall representatives from the Larimer County (Fort Collins) area League of Women Voters provided summaries about several of the Amendments and Propositions that are on the upcoming November 2024 ballot in Colorado.

In addition, Anne and Susan shared the history The League of Women Voters (LWV) and explained that the LWV is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that was established in 1920 by women’s suffrage leaders. The LWV was formed shortly after women in the United States gained the right to vote with, the passage of the 19th Amendment. The primary goal of the organization is to empower voters and promote active participation in democracy.

The LWV focuses on voter education, advocating for free and fair elections, and ensuring that all citizens have access to the voting process. Additionally, the League also works on public policy issues such as healthcare, environmental protection, and government transparency. The organization remains a key player in promoting civic engagement and defending voting rights.

For additional information visit the League of Women Voters website at: https://www.lwv.org/. For more information about the Larimer County LWV www.lwv-larimercounty.org.

Celebrating The Good Times…

Although Quota gals have had a busy summer, we found time to get together for our annual picnic. Special thanks to Judi and Frank D. for hosting Quota’s members & pals once again this year as well as the committee who helped with all the arrangements. As the saying goes “it wouldn’t happen without all your help”.

It is always a great time to catch up with one another, relax and look back on our years accomplishments.

Loveland Youth Gardner’s Empowers Our Youth…

Quota was honored to have the Executive Director, Kelly Robenhagen of the Loveland Youth Gardner’s organization share with us about the positive impact they have on the youth in the community at the beautiful home of Quota’s member Karen R.

“Loveland’s Youth Gardner’s organization is Northern Colorado’s non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of youth by building healthy relationships with people, the environment, and the community”. This incredible organization serves students from 13 to 20 years of age teaching youth to operate a youth-led farm. The farm is located right off of Hwy 34 & 402, where the young people learn about being “stewards of the land”, learn leadership skills and form healthy connections, while spending time in nature. The youth help with all aspects of the farm from preparing the soil, designing the bedding areas to harvesting what they have planted. When working with the students, they also focus on how the students can give back to their community such as watering the plants in the downtown Loveland area. Kelly reported that last year alone the organizations served over 400 youth. Kelly then shared they are also a proud partner with Colorado State University’s Grow & Give, a statewide gardening project to help support our food-insecure neighbors; “food grown on the farm by our students is then donated to address hunger locally, showing the power of our young people to make a difference!”

What A Great Team Of Volunteers!!!

(Left to Right): Leah S., Sharon C. John S., Kim M., Linda J. Theresa R., & Jane A.

Quota members and a spouse volunteered during Saturday’s Windsor, Colorado Walk MS on Saturday May 11, 2024. Quota volunteers were honored to staff two of the hydration stations as participants gathered and walked to support the work that the Multiple Sclerosis Society does and to help get those living with MS closer to the ultimate goal: a cure.

Walk MS unites the MS community, their family & friends in the largest gathering of its kind to raise funds to make a difference for everyone living with MS. The MS community has raised funds to help the National Multiple Sclerosis Society’s mission to find a cure for MS while empowering people affected by MS to live their best lives.

Shining Light on the Project Linus

(Left to right) Quota President Barb & member Kristi
Linus Project, Project Coordinator Violet M.

Quota gathered for another lovely and engaging evening of friendship, hearts and crafts as we were fortunate to have the guest speaker Violet M., Project Coordinator for the Project Linus of Larimer & Weld Counties. Violet told us about the efforts of many volunteers that create beautiful quilts and afghans for children in need in Northern Colorado. To top off our evening together, Quota members also had an opportunity to help make a fleece blanket that was donated to the Project Linus program. For additional information on the Project Linus program check out their website at: https://www.projectlinus.org/

A huge Thank You also goes out to our very own Quota member Kristi Martin. In the spirit of Random Acts of Kindness- Kristi made over 50 hearts for members to take and place around the community to brighten the day of a stranger. Each heart has a tag and directs the finder to a website to post where they found the heart.  More information about the project is here:  I Found a heart Website:

Pic attached of the beautiful hearts that Kristi made!!

Here are the rules about placing the hearts:

  • Do not share/posts pictures of your finished hearts on social media groups. (heart makers stay anonymous – remember it is ALL about the finder!)
  • Do not hand, give or gift hearts to people. (Hearts need to be “found.”)
  • Do not leave hearts on personal or private property, such as a front porch, vehicle, door, bicycle, mailbox, gate, little libraries, etc. (Not public)
  • Do not leave hearts in a cluster, like a giving tree. (Not random)
  • Do not leave hearts in places that are not public: hotel rooms, work desk, break rooms, office, private retreat, etc. (Not public
  • Do not leave hearts inside any kind of retail store or on retail displays. (Can be mistaken for merchandise.)
  • Do not leave hearts in airports. (Homeland security does not approve!)
  • Do not leave hearts in National Parks, Wilderness, Forests, Monuments, Bureau of Land Managements, or other Federal Public Lands areas. (Federal Regulation Title 36, 2.22 (a))
  • Do not leave hearts in bathrooms, restrooms, washrooms, etc. (Unsanitary)
  • Do not leave in places where they may be thrown away by staff. (Super Sad)

Examples of good places to sow hearts: A local park, hiking trail, highway rest stop, community center, outdoor shopping center, town square, foyer of public place, community bulletin board, beach, nature trail, tourist attraction, trees, bushes and fences in downtown areas, etc. Be imaginative and creative when looking for just the right public place to sow a heart and have fun!
